1st Incident


Category: Aggravated Robbery

Date: 7th of December

Location: Callao Anchorage, Peru

Position: 12:01.42S, 077:13.75W


Three pirates boarded a bulk carrier anchored off the coast of Peru during the early morning hours of December the 7th. The incident occurred at approximately 0610 UTC, while the vessel was anchored at Peru's Callao Anchorage. The three individuals boarded the vessel via the anchor chain and the hawse pipe. They proceeded to tie up the duty OS, take his radio, watch & flashlight and entered the forecastle store. Thankfully, the duty OS managed to escape and raise the alarm, which resulted in the crew mustering.

Upon noticing the alarmed crew, the three individuals escaped in a motorboat that had been waiting for them. Following a search of the vessel, several ship properties were reported as stolen. The incident was then reported to the local Port Authority.


2nd Incident


Category: Attempted Boarding

Date: 13th of December

Location: Port of Algiers, Algeria

Position: 36° 45’ N, 3° 4’ E

A number of individuals attempted to board the Singapore-flagged LPG Tanker, NIJINSKY during the early morning hours of December the 13th while the vessel was docked at the Port of Algiers. The incident occurred at approximately 0530 hours, while the vessel was docked alongside the berth 37/2.

The vessel was undergoing cargo operations when the duty officer on board the ship noticed three individuals attempting to board the vessel by using the forward mooring lines. The ship alarm was promptly raised and the individuals proceeded to escape the vessel. The crew then conducted a stowaway search through the vessel and confirmed that there was no presence of any unauthorized individuals on board the ship.

The incident was then reported to the local port authorities, who boarded the vessel in order to conduct their own investigation.

Vessel & crew are considered safe.


3rd Incident


Category: Kidnapping

Date: 15th of December

Location: Lome, Gulf of Guinea

Position: 0423 N – 00203E


The Marshall Islands-flagged Tanker, DUKE was attacked during the morning hours of December the 15th while transiting off the coast of Lome, Togo. 

The incident occurred at 08000 hours, some 115 nautical miles south-east of Lome. The vessel had been transiting from Luanda, Angola to Lome, Togo when the attack took place. According to initial reports, six pirates boarded the vessel, and kidnapped 20 seafarers, all Indian nationals, leaving behind a single Nigerian national.

Considering the distance from the shore, it's quite likely that the pirates used a mothership that allowed them to operate in such a capacity. 


4th Incident


Category: Suspicious Activity

Date: 19th of December

Location: Nigeria, Gulf of Guinea

Position: 0300N / 00353E


A suspicious mother vessel was spotted during the morning hours of December the 19th transiting off the coast of Nigeria. The vessel was seen towing a speedboat, some 150 nautical miles southwest of the Brass Oil Terminal, at approximately 0930 hours. 

Seafarers are advised to use caution when transiting through the region.
