US officials have blacklisted 6 Russian cargo ships for violation of North Korea sanctions.

The US Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, has accused Russia of cheating UN sanctions on North Korea.

Those that have been blacklisted include: two shipping companies, two personalities and 6 ships, including 1 tanker, were blacklisted by the United States Department of the Treasury.

Haley claims that Washington has evidence of "consistent and wide-ranging Russian violations".

In the statement she refers to 148 cases this year where oil tankers have delivered fuel to North Korea.

The oil is believed to have been transferred by ship-to-ship transfer at sea in breach of UN sanctions.

It is not known how many transfers involved Russia.
