Spanish Special Operations Police (GEO) boarded a tugboat in the Atlantic Ocean, seizing over 1400 kilos of cocaine and arresting ten suspects in the process.

“The Breath”, a Moldavian-registered tug that had originally departed from Turkey, was transiting off the southwestern coast of Spain when it was intercepted by police forces.

Seven Turks, one Bulgarian, one Georgian, and one Ukrainian were arrested during the raid, in what the police force described as the third strike against Turkish drug mafias in recent months.

This latest incident marks the 7th cocaine transport to have been successfully raided by Spanish forces this year.

According to UDYCO (Drugs and Organized Crime Unit) spokesman Santos Bernal, the total amount of cocaine seized from vessels this year amounts to over 15000 kilos.

The vessel was escorted by the Spanish Navy ship “Rayo” to the Las Palmas naval base in the Canary Islands.
