Reports have just come in that products tanker Maersk Maya was boarded by pirates while anchored in Port-au-Prince, Haiti on February 22.
The Singapore-flagged vessel was anchored when the security team saw a group of armed men board the ship’s forecastle area.
Once sited, the crew raised the alarm, causing the perpetrators to fire warning shots at the crew. The crew then managed to hide inside the accommodation blocks.
The perpetrators cut the mooring rope eye and left the ship. It is not known whether they took anything off the ship. All crew members are reportedly safe and unharmed.
The incident was reported to the local authorities.
The MR2 tanker, built in 2009, is currently underway using engine, bound for Houston, USA, according to its AIS data.
