The Nigerian Navy have helped the crew of a container ship escape during a pirate attack near Bonny, Nigeria.
The container vessel was approached by four armed pirates in a speed boat on 15th February.
The Master of the ship was able to increase speed and gain distance from the pirates before carrying out evasive manoeuvres. This is in line with the company policy.
The Nigerian Navy were then able to escort the boat at which point the pirates aborted the attempted boarding and moved off.
The attack happened around 40nm SSW of Bonny, Nigeria. The crew and ship are reported to be safe and have continued on their journey.
