A number of containers have collapsed onboard Maersk Lima incurring losses in the region of hundreds of thousands USD.

The containers which were primarily loaded with luxury cars buckled as the container ship berthed at APM Terminal 4, Buenos Aires, Argentina, on the 23rd May. Several of the cars, which were mainly BMWs were crushed as the containers collapsed on to each other.

Terminal 4 were quick to issue a statement denying any liability. A representative stated that in all likelihood the containers on board Maersk Lima became unsteady during transit. The ship had sailed from Paranagua Brazil to Buenos Aires and experienced rough weather while crossing Rio Grande Do Sul.

MAERSK LIMA had originally arrived at Buenos Aires on 19th May and is currently still in Buenos Aires whilst investigations are ongoing.
