A Japanese bulk carrier has crashed in to a Dutch pilot ship off the coast of the Netherlands.

In the early hours of the morning on the 21st January, pilot ship Pollux collided with Nord Taurus.

The incident took place north of Vlissingen, in the North Sea.

It is believed the Japanese bulk carrier was proceeding to anchorage or was en route from Terneuzen Netherlands to Murmansk Russia. It is likely she was taken to port for inspection following the crash.

Dutch media have reported the pilot ship sustained serious damage but managed to use its own power to return to Vlissingen.

There are no reported injuries. The bulk carrier was able to continue its journey within an hour of being in the port.
