A general cargo ship has capsized after being hit by a fishing vessel in the English Canal, north of Le Havre.

Deborah struck Britannica Hav at around 1440 UTC on Tuesday afternoon. The cargo ship was breached portside with water coming in before it eventually capsized, drifting west in the process.

The crew of 7 escaped on life rafts and were picked up by the crew of Deborah.

Local reports suggest the only person to be injured was the skipper of Deborah.

Britannica Hav was en route from Spain to the UK. She remained afloat and drifting in a south west direction following the crash.
