Fire erupted onboard the Hong Kong-flagged Bulk Carrier, Albany Sound in the morning of April the 14th while the vessel was docked at the N.C. Port of Morehead City, USA.

According to initial reports, the fire started at approximately 09:30 in the morning. It originated in the superstructure of the vessel and was centred around the crew’s living quarters.

According to scanner reports, 22 people were aboard the ship at the time of the fire.

The Morehead City fire department rushed to the scene, alongside crews from neighboring Beaufort’s fire department.

Several EMS services were also called to the scene, from Atlantic Beach, Newport and & Beaufort as well as Morehead.

Thankfully, due to the quick and efficient response by the local fire departments, the fire was put under control by 14:30 pm.

According to Morehead City’s Fire Department, the damage on the vessel is mostly confined to the crew quarters.

The United States Coast Guard has opened an investigation into the accident so as to determine the cause behind the fire.
