The Bangladesh-flagged Container Ship, KSL Gladiator lost over 43 containers in the morning of June 30th while transiting through the Bay of Bengal.

The incident occurred at approximately 08:25 am, while the vessel was moving through the Hatiya Channel, Bangladesh.

The vessel had left Chattogram Port and was bound for the Pangaon Container Terminal in Dhaka when it lost over 43 containers overboard mid-transit.

According to initial reports, the reason behind the loss of the containers has been attributed to rough weather.

Mohammad Selim, Deputy Director of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BITWA) in Chattogram said the vessel had been carrying imported industrial goods.

According to Mr. Selim, vessel movement through the channel has not been hampered due to the incident. However, there are reports of a number of containers remaining afloat, drifting through the area.

"We heard that 43 containers went overboard, and they were seen floating towards Bhasan char. The ship’s authorities have been asked to monitor the movement of the containers. We are also keeping an eye on it," said Mr. Selim in a statement to the press.

The Bangladeshi Navy, alongside the local Coast Guard and Port Authorities, have launched a mission to try and retrieve the lost containers.
