The Chinese General Cargo Ship, RONG HAI 79 was grounded on the afternoon of July the 4th while transiting through the East China Sea.

The incident occurred at approximately 15:30 LT on Thursday afternoon, in the shallows surrounding Nanri Island, in East China’s Fujian Province.

The crew of the RONG HAI 79 could not determine if the vessel was in danger of sinking and so decided to abandon the ship and board the life boats.

The Donghai Rescue Bureau, which operates under China’s Ministry of Transport received a distress call from the grounded vessel and proceeded to launch a search and rescue operation to save the unfortunate seafarers.

Local authorities immediately dispatched a rescue vessel and a helicopter. By 4:48 pm all 13 crew members aboard the RONG HAI 79 had been successfully evacuated onboard the search & rescue vessel that had arrived at the scene.

In the meantime, the Ministry of Transport has tasked a towing vessel with re-floating the stranded vessel.

All crew members are considered safe and are in good health.
