A section of the Mississippi waterway has been forced to close after a general cargo ship was reported to be leaking oil.

Pac Antares had sailed from Houston, Texas and was being moored on the 12th April in New Orleans when the leak was spotted.

The contamination resulted in authorities closing the waterway from mile 91 to mile 101.

The leak is said to be sealed and as of this morning an auxiliary boat is reported to be alongside the cargo ship.

The vessel is now docked at West Riverside.
