A Maltese flagged tanker was attacked by pirates off the coast of Bonny, Nigeria this morning at 1000 LT. 

MT Scot Munchen was approached by 2 speedboats 9nm SouthWest of the Bonny Fairway Buoy, Nigeria.

Reports have since indicated that there were armed pirates onboard the speed boats.

The speedboats were sighted two hours later at 1245 LT leaving the vessel.

The windows of the bridge have been damaged by the shots, and there is damage to the vessel from the bullets.

At this stage there is no update on the safety of the crew.
