A search and rescue operation is underway as teams try to find 6 crew members who went missing when a cargo ship sank in the Taiwan Strait.

General cargo ship, Hong Peng sank in east China's Fujian Province waters, in the Taiwan Strait yesterday morning, 16th May. 

MRCC Fuzhou was alerted at 0630 LT and a search and rescue mission was launched. 

Initial reports indicate that by 1600 LT 5 of the crew had been rescued.

The search continues for the remaining 6 seafarers who are still missing.
