4 Malaysian men who were abducted by pirates have been found safe in Thailand. The men were part of a crew of 11 fishermen who were attacked on board 2 vessels off Pulau Langgun.

12 armed men boarded the 2 fishing vessels on Sunday 19th August.

The local police rescued 7 of the victims and arrested 4 Thai suspects, but one of the boats, carrying the remaining suspects and the four Malaysian fishermen, escaped into Thai waters.

Police also found 3 guns that were used during the boarding.

A search was quickly undertaken and the victims were found in Thailand, where an investigation in to the remaining 8 suspects is underway.

Langkawi district police chief Supt Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said:

“So far, all four fishermen are found safe. They are now at the Satun police station (in southern Thailand).”

ARX Maritime have designed an anti-piracy barrier to prevent pirates boarding your vessel. The ARX anti-boarding and climbing barrier repels grappling hooks and ladders, significantly increasing the chances of your vessel and crew surviving a pirate attack. The system is easily installed and provides a cost-effective alternative to razor wire.
