One crew member has died after 2 explosions on a Chinese cargo ship off the coast of Hong Kong. 

There were 12 people on board Chuang Sheng Hai as it transited in the vicinity 22 06N 114 00E, west of Dangazhen, Wanshan Archipelago, south of Hong Kong.

Initial reports suggest the first explosion came from the engine room and spread through then vessel. There was then a second explosion in the gas tank. 

The ship was loaded with cement bulk.

The other seafarers were rescued by nearby ships. 

Search and rescue ship NANHAIJIU 116 was sent to salvage the cargo ship. As of the morning of 17th May the fire on the ship had been put out and 5 members of the emergency team had boarded the vessel.
