A fierce gun battle has broken out between opposing armies in Somalia.
The fighting is reported to have started between two local security groups, one from Somaliland and one from Puntland.
Eyewitnesses claim the two opposing sides are using heavy weapons in Takaraq, the Sool region.
Historically the groups have been in conflict over land. Both want to obtain the northern provinces of Sool, Sanaag and Cayn (SSC).
In 2016 it was reported, at least five soldiers were killed after similar clashes in Sanaag. A Puntland army commander confirmed three Puntland soldier fatalities. Two Somaliland military offers were also killed.
