An explosion and fire onboard a product tanker undergoing repairs has injured workers and the tanker’s captain in Malaysia. The explosion took place on March 13 while the vessel was docked at Belawai Anchorahe, Malaysia for repairs.
Two dock workers suffered serious burns in the incident and the tanker’s Captain suffered injuries to his face.
Belawai Anchorage is in Tanjung Manis, northwestern Kalimantan. There were repair works taking place when it’s believed welding near cargo tanks caused a gas explosion.
The fire was quickly extinguished before firefighters arrived. The tanker has sustained heavy damages.
