A vessel off the coast of Nigeria has just repelled an attack by pirates using AK-47 assault rifles.
Just after 1 o’clock today the ship was travelling through Brass, a local government area in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Here they were approached by approximately 8 pirates in a white-hulled skiff.
Using AK-47 rifles the pirates attempted to attack the vessel. They approached the ship twice, firing at the vessel as they attempted to board. In both instances they were repelled by the armed guards on the ship who returned fire, forcing the pirates to retreat.
The crew are reported to be safe and the vessel has no severe damage.
At this stage the name of the ship has not been released. More will follow…
